its been a while.. some thought FactBoy! had vanished, but hark!..
the bugle plays once more!!

- In 1838 it was declared illegal to
swim at public beaches during the day!
This law was enforced until 1902.

- In 1954, Bob Hawke was immortalised
by the Guinness Book of Records for
sculling 2.5 pints of beer in 11
seconds. Bob later became the Prime
Minister of Australia.

- Queensland is home to the lung fish,
a living fossil from the Triassic
period 350 million years ago

- Australia was founded by Convicts.
Its homicide rate is 1.8 per 100,000
population. The United States was
founded by religious zealots. It's
homicide rate is 6.3 per 100,000.
Almost 400% greater than Australia.

- The world's fastest growing tree is
the Australian Eucalyptus. It can grow
up to 10 metres in one year.

cattle station. At 30,028 km2 it is
almost the same size as Belgium.

With a swish of a pen, and a clack of the return key, FactBoy! posts for the last time for 2008...
who knows what is in stall for the coming year..
what other treasures will FactBoy! discover?
